Pulaski County Farmers' Market
Pulaski County Farmers Market is set to kick off 2024, its ninth year, the first week in June. It can be found in Winamac on Saturdays from 9am to 12pm on Main Street in front of the courthouse.
PCFM worked hard in the off season to implement a new logo, create a new website, and set up a free program for kids age 12 and under called Power of Produce (POP) Club. POP Club is a farmers market-based children’s program that seeks to teach children about fruits and vegetables, local food systems, and healthy food preparation through fun activities. Participants 12 and under engage in the full farmers market experience by trying new foods and buying local produce.
Fun weekly activities provide education and fun to the children and families that participate each week. Through the Two-Bite Club, POP participants are rewarded for taking two bites of the featured fruit or vegetable and receive POP Bucks to spend on the foods of their choice at the market. These vouchers also serve to empower kids, by giving them the purchasing power to buy from farmers and local vendors at the market.
“The goal is to introduce kids to healthy foods grown right here in Pulaski County and then let those kids shop for their favorites from the farmers themselves. We’re excited to take the idea of eating local and supporting local farmers to the young people in our county,” said Pulaski County Market Manager Diana Day.
To join POP Club, come to any farmers market in Francesville or Winamac and sign up at the market table. It’s free and you can come back each week to try more locally grown produce, learn about healthy living, and earn prizes.
PCFM President Jamie Murray said, “I hope everyone comes out to the markets this year to see for themselves what we have to offer. Our vendors work really hard to provide for our community and they deserve recognition for that.”
PCFM continues to provide a forum for vendors to sell their handmade and homegrown items and invites everyone to come out to the market this year to support them. The markets are open every week beginning the first week of June and ending on October 2nd.
