Signs Pointing to Good things Happening in Francesville
Signs. Signs direct us, give instructions, make us aware of places and events, but sometimes get destroyed. That’s what happened to the Uptown Project business sign on Hwy 421 that directed people to the center of town. It was accidentally damaged. Perhaps that was fitting, as it was directing people to a pharmacy which no longer exists and at the time it was removed, directing people to a grocery that was assumed to be closing its doors.
Perhaps a bigger and better sign will need to be erected. The grocery stayed open and there is still hope for some kind of pharmacy to come to town. Wouldn’t it be great, if the Uptown Project could enlist Alan Sutton Graphic Designs once more to make a new sign?
Alan has had a long history of combining art with being an entrepreneur. He first started his business in 1995 in the upstairs bedroom of his mother’s home. After he married Lori Chase, he moved his growing business into their home. He built a shop adjacent to their residence and has continued making signs in that present building, located on Bill St. across from the town park.
In addition to signage, Al Sutton Graphic Designs creates business logos, banners for any occasion, signs for vehicle advertising, and billboards. Almost any kind and size of sign you need, vinyl or metal, Alan can make.
Perhaps some of Alan’s most recent impressive work has been his personal touch on the caskets of his departed nephew, Branden Conley, and his Mother, Velma Sutton. This artwork cannot be bought. It was straight from his heart as a gift to his family. But it truly represents the quality of Alan’s work.
Alan is not the only entrepreneur of the family. His wife, Lori, began Dance Developmental Academy, DDA in 2014. This young business, located just a door south of the Francesville Post Office, brings in customers from several local towns for the wide variety of dance classes offered to children ages 3 and up and even Tae Kwon Do classes for 5 and up. Lori, along with her two oldest daughters, Analese and Liliana, instruct the classes. These Sutton ladies spent many hours in Chicago learning the best in dance training. They bring this ‘big city’ expertise to Francesville. Their students are refining skills in preparation for a dance recital on Sunday, May 13 and May 20. But DDA is not just for young folks. Classes are soon to begin in Ballroom Dancing and Acrobatic Arts. Adult Fitness and Massage therapy are already offered as well.
This year DDA plans to take students to three dance competitions in Indianapolis. A fundraiser is currently being held to help students with expenses. Flavored popcorn and pasta is currently on sale. If you’re not familiar with DDA, just look for the large billboard sign that Alan created and has placed along HWY 421 just north of town. It shows not only Alan’s work but the creative dance styles illustrated by his 3 beautiful daughters!
